I shared the words below on my Instagram account (@hannahrowrites) today and wanted to share them here too. If you are not on social media, I applaud you and 100% do NOT want to try to convince you to join! I’m glad you’re here too and I am working on trying to make my poetry as available in this space.
At my desk. Writing happy place.
Popping in to say hi, hello to all of you. For those of you who have been here awhile, thank you. You are making my dreams of being a writer come true. If you are new here, welcome. I hope you’ll find that this little corner of the internet is here to make you feel good about who you are. Not just my words, but these beautiful people who choose to read along- they are life affirming, they are cheerleaders. Share a vulnerable comment and you are likely to get a lot of support and new friends.
I started sharing my poetry in summer 2020 and thought maybe I’d find a few hundred people who enjoyed my writing. A few years later there are more than 70,000 of you and my mind is blown. I’m so thankful you’re here. I wanted to share some things about me and my journey.
1. I exclusively write on devices (laptops and the notes section of my phone). This picture is me in my happy writing place- at my desk next to a window. I used to feel like I should write in a notebook because poets write in notebooks, right? But then decided I was going to leave the “shoulds” behind.
2. I am the most extroverted person I know. In my early 20s, I went through a period of feeling sad most of the time and found that 10/10 times that I got myself out of the house to spend time with people, I felt better. Huge parties can sometimes feel exhausting, but my sweet spot is a 5-10 person dinner party. It’s funny that writing (a mostly solo activity) has become my life passion, but I love meeting you all here.
3. I left my full time job in January to spend more time caring for my daughter during the weekdays and to focus more on writing. I was lucky enough to have some early interest from a few wonderful folks in the publishing world this past year and I signed on with an amazing agent a few months ago. I am working on finalizing a book proposal and I’m so excited to potentially make this a reality. If I get to publish a book someday it will be in large part thanks to you amazing people who read and share my words.
Thank you, thank you for being here. You all have a piece of my heart.
…And if you’re not on social media, or prefer to get your poems here, here are two poems on motherhood I shared last week.
Soooo excited for the book!!
I found you first on Instagram and was happy to find you here too.
