Ways I pray
And hello, again!
Hi friends!
I’m back after a few months away from this weekly newsletter. Since I last emailed, I have had three weddings (to the same person ☺️), one at a courthouse, one in Pennsylvania in front of many loved ones and one in India. I hope if weekly poems are your jam, you’ve also been following along on Instagram (@hannahrowrites) where I’ve been sharing weekly, but if you stay off social media for mental health or other reasons, good for you and keep it up! I’ll try to be more diligent here going forward.
If you, too, are feeling overwhelmed by anxious thoughts about things that feel outside of your control, I invite you to think of some ways that you pray (to a god, the universe, mother earth, your ancestors, yourself, whoever, whatever).
The day the 2016 election results were announced, I called my Nanna in tears. I remember her words so clearly. “Hannie,” she said, “Things will happen in the world all the time that will upset, disappoint and disturb you. It doesn’t mean you can’t fight against them, but you can’t let them upset your inner peace. You have to protect that.”
So I pass that message along to you, today, to whoever needs to hear it. And if you need some help getting started, I encourage you to take the tiniest step outside, for just a minute, without your phone.
Peace, love and thanks for reading,
Hannah
(Wedding #2 in Pennsylvania)
Thanks for sharing your nanna's words. <3
